BREAST LIFT

Over time, a woman’s breasts lose its natural support. Factors such as pregnancy, nursing, weight changes and simply the force of gravity takes its toll on the shape and firmness of the breast – stretching its suspensory ligaments and making its skin envelope sag.

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that lessens the degree of the drooping or what is medically referred to breast ptosis.

The surgeons at Cosmetic Surgery of America offer this breast enhancing procedure to women who wish to:

  • achieve a more youthful position for both breast and nipple
  • achieve a more proportional size & rounder areola
  • reshaped and elevated breasts in conjunction with a breast augmentation

Q&A

Am I a candidate for a breast lift?

Through a private consultation and discussion of your goals, our Board-certified surgeon would determine whether or not a breast lift is the ideal procedure for you. We find that good candidates are healthy women with noticeably less breast volume than previous years who do not intend to lose a lot of weight, get pregnant or breastfeed. It is important to meet with a Cosmetic Surgery of America surgeon to understand the indications for a breast lift.

Can I still nurse in the future?

Yes. Just like in other breast enhancing surgical procedures, a mastopexy does not typically interfere with a woman’s ability to breast-feed.

What can I expect in recovery?

Recovery is different for each patient. Discomfort such as bruising, swelling and dry skin is normal after the procedure. You may also experience numbness in your nipples and breast skin but it should fade over in a few weeks sometimes more. With regards to the incision, the scars may be lumpy and red for a few months, and then become gradually less obvious sometimes even fading to thin white lines.

How long before I can return to normal activity?

Resuming daily activities such as work or school would vary by patient. Your surgeon would give you instructions in returning to your normal routine and what activities to avoid. In general, you would be allowed a week or more before going back to work or school.

Could a breast augmentation be performed in conjunction with a breast lift?

Yes. A breast lift can be performed in conjunction with breast augmentation. Your individual circumstances would determine if the breast lift and augmentation would be performed in one or two stages. If performed in one stage, the implants will be implanted during the same surgery as the mastopexy is performed. Alternatively, the breast lift could be done on one day, with the implants implanted at a later date.
